Parents falling behind children in tech skills
By Ash Dosanjh,
Parents are falling behind their children when it comes to tech skills, a new poll as revealed.
The ICM poll, commissioned by Microsoft, to launch an initiative called Digital Literacy, showed that 1 in 5 parents do not feel their computer skills are competent enough to aid their children with their homework.
Of the 1010 people that took part in the poll, 2 in 5 adults are concerned that their skills are not keeping up with advances in IT and technology. And, at least 12 per cent of people felt excluded as a result of ineffective computer skills.
Out of those asked, 48 per cent of people felt that the main barriers to improving their computer skills was not knowing where to start, while 23 per cent of people held some fear and apprehension about technology.
Digital Literacy will be a joint venture between Microsoft, learndirect, UK online centres and OCR (Oxford and Cambridge RSA examinations), which will aim to boost employment prospects for individuals and help close the nation's skills gap by improving and promoting better computer skills.
