Scottish Water in £120 million IT deal

Water company collaborates with three leading IT companies to create a cost-effective development programme.

By Ash Dosanjh, 27 Apr 2008 at 17:29

Tata Consultancy Services, Fujitsu and BT have been awarded contracts with Scottish Water worth a total of £120 million.

Tata Consultancy Services will deal with applications management and support, while Fujitsu will look after service desks, desk tops and infrastructure. BT will be responsible for mobiles, data, voice and networks.

The combined knowledge of the three will enable Scottish Water to reduce IT costs while offering employees a range of extended services, which include a 24-hour IT service desk, out-of-hours care and maintenance systems.

Scottish Water hopes that the new contracts will save the company £8 million in operating expenditure over eight years, with a shift in using fewer suppliers to stimulate efficiency savings.

Scottish Water's general manager for IT David Brown said the new deal would offer a "rounded package of benefits".

"It is a rounded package of benefits that delivers significant cost savings, an enhanced service and the opportunity to exploit the extensive development capabilities of some of the most innovative companies in the business," Brown said.
