Skills body calls on IT industry for help
By Miya Knights,
IT academics and industry are being called on to offer their opinion on how to improve development in the sector.
A consultation by www.e-skills.com will help the non-profit group develop a five-year strategic plan for England, seeking input from IT industry stakeholders including employers, education specialists and others with an interest in the development of domestic IT and telecoms skills base.
Karen Price, e-skills UK chief executive, said: "Our job is to unite employers, educators and government to ensure the UK has the technology-related skills it needs to compete in the global economy. Effective partnerships are central to achieving this, and we value input from everyone with insight and views on the subject."
The consultation will focus on five strategic objectives and approaches proposed to address a range of topics. It will look at addressing the gender imbalance, updating the school curriculum and deepening links between industry and Higher Education, and improving access to learning for IT professionals, as well as supporting small companies and making the best use of public funding for training provision.
Only recently, a survey by the not-for-profit IT Governance Institute (ITGI) found that a lack of good IT and service delivery skills are growing causes for concern for organisations worldwide.
Interested parties are invited to contribute suggestions and feedback, or find out more, by visiting the e-skills UK website before the consultation period ends on 27 June 2008.
