VIA launches Nano processors
By Ash Dosanjh,
VIA Technologies has today announced the launch of its VIA Nano processor family.
The new processors, based on VIA Isaiah architecture, will build on the existing VIA C7 by offering as much as four times the performance within the same power range, keeping the performance per watt rating strong.
VIA Nano processors are the first 64-bit, superscalar, speculative out-of-order processors in VIA's x86 platform portfolio. It has been specifically designed to revitalise traditional desktop and notebook PC markets, delivering optimised performance for the most demanding computing, entertainment and connectivity applications. This includes Blu-ray disc, HD video playback and the latest PC games.
The VIA Nano processor family also utilises Fujitsu's advanced 65 nanometer process technology for enhanced power efficiency.
President and chief execituve of VIA Technologies Wenchi Chen said the VIA Nano processors embodied the company's vision of where processors were heading.
"VIA Nano processors represent the next generation of x86 technology, providing the fundamental building blocks for a new genre of optimised computing solutions," he said.
"[This] is more than a design strategy; it's our vision of where the PC market is heading and our new processors will help the market realise that dream," said Chen.
