    LaCie announces 1TB hard disk

Little Big Disk Quadra 1TB is announced today by LaCie, which claims the storage product offers fast speeds in a size the palm of your hand.

By Danielle Nordine, 17 Jun 2008 at 14:35

Computer hardware company LaCie announced today the release of the Little Big Disk Quadra 1TB, a hard disk boasting high speeds and capacity in a compact design that can fit in the palm of your hand.

The mobile device, which weighs in at just over half a kilogram, contains two 2.5-inch hard disks that work in a built-in RAID 0 configuration, which allows burst transfer rates up to 80MB/s when using FireWire 800 and up to 110MB/s when using eSATA, ensuring speeds equal to those of built-in SATA drives.

The device offers one eSATA 3GB/sec, one USB 2.0 interface, and two FireWire 800s, which are compatible with Fire Wire 400 when using the included adaptor.

The Little Big Disk features the LaCie d2 heat sink design, which means it is entirely fanless, keeping it quiet during use.

Compatible with both Mac Leopard and Windows Vista, the Little Big Disk Quadra comes preloaded with the LaCie Setup Assistant, which can optimise the drive’s capabilities according to the user’s specific needs.

The unit also comes with advanced backup and restore software EMC Retrospect Express for Mac and Windows, and can be linked via the Fire Wire interfaces to other LaCie hard disks or DVD±RW drives.

The Little Big Disk Quadra is available now and pricing starts at £399.99 excluding VAT.
