Sainsbury's has resolved the technical problems which forced it to suspend its online service for two days.

The online shop is now back taking orders, however, customers will be waiting until Saturday morning for their deliveries, as Sainsbury's works through the backlog.

The retailer estimated that 20,000 people had been affected by the website outage, and claims to have offered them all £10 e-shopping vouchers as compensation.

In a statement, Sainsbury's said: "We experienced a technical glitch which affected our ability to process orders. We have been contacting customers whose orders have been affected over the last couple of days and would like to apologise once again for the inconvenience this has caused.

"We have spent just over 48 hours fixing the problem and the website has been thoroughly tested."

Sainsbury's reiterated that the site had not been compromised, and that no personal details were at risk.
