Video: Q&A with Toshiba's Alan Thompson
By Stephen Pritchard,
The laptop computer has come a very long way since the “luggable” PCs of the late 1980s. And over 20 years, they completely changed the way businesses and consumers think about their PCs.
As Toshiba’s executive vice president Alan Thompson recalls, the first colour-screen laptops were such a radical development that they changed companies’ entire IT strategies. Now, consumers think little of buying a laptop computer as a PC for playing games or watching movies.
IT PRO spoke to Thompson about the growing capabilities of laptops, how R&D is improving weight, size and battery life, and whether it will ever be acceptable to go into a board meeting carrying a portable adorned with a picture of someone’s bottom.
