IT management roles fall, but rest are static
By Nicole Kobie,
There are fewer jobs available for IT managers, but most roles in the sector are holding steady in the face of economic woes.
Figures from the IT Job Board have shown that most areas of the sector have remained static. IT support, analysts, and networking and developer positions have all seen stable demand over the past two quarters.
Developers have seen a slight decline, while project manager and IT managers have seen a decline of five per cent of the same period.
It’s a rosier picture for others, however. Testing roles are up 8.3 per cent this quarter, while the demand for investment banking IT pros has jumped by half.
“Surprisingly we are seeing a surge in demand for Financial IT workers, but this could be due to the work being put in to develop systems that allow for better risk,” said Adam Stokes, operations manager at the IT Job Board.
“The good news is that we are seeing stability across IT positions as a whole, with no further significant drops since the beginning of the year – in fact an increase in networking positions is a positive sign that infrastructure projects are still going ahead,” he added.
A report earlier this week from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation suggested that demand for IT pros was slipping slightly.
