    HP introduces Elitebook ultra-portables

Company adds to notebook range with lightweight Elitebooks, designed for portability and durability.

By Benny Har-Even, 18 Aug 2008 at 17:39

HP has today announced three new business focused notebooks - including an ultra-portable EliteBook, its lightest notebook with a built-in optical drive.

The 1.4Kg EliteBook 2530p is housed in what HP refers to as a ‘Duracase’, an aluminium and magnesium alloy chassis that’s engineered to deal with extreme conditions, such as temperature and dust. It will be powered by ultra-low voltage variants of Intel’s Core 2 Duo processor and sport a 12.1in display.

The EliteBook 2730p is an ultra-thin notebook that converts into a touch-screen tablet with a twist of the screen and weighs in at 1.7Kg. An optional battery will give it up to 12 hours of staying power.

Meanwhile the 1.8Kg Compaq 2230s is a more standard business notebook with a 12.1in widescreen display.

The EliteBook 2530p and EliteBook 2730p are scheduled for early September for estimated street prices of $1,499 (£802.55) and $1,670 (£894.10) respectively, while the Compaq 2230s will go for $999 (£534.81).

HP also sells its lightweight Mininote netbook, running either Linux or Windows XP but it does not have a built-in optical drive.
