HP launches new enterprise printing solutions

Increased workflow, improved manageability and enhanced security are on offer, claims HP.

By Benny Har-Even, 1 Sep 2008 at 14:23

HP today unveiled four new printing solutions that it says will help enterprises enhance imaging and printing security and efficiency.

The new lineup sits under the umbrella of HP’s Solution Business Partner programme (SBP) which aims to help companies streamline business processes through better management and efficiency gains.

The first new solution is aimed at the banking and finance industries and focuses on beefing up the security of cheque printing processes. Developed in partnership with the Troy Group, features of the new solution include safeguarding the printing device and meeting stringent cheque processing standards to help step up the battle against cheque fraud.

Next up, SafeCom has worked with HP to create the Imaging and Printing Job Accounting and Security solution. Using this solution, administrators can gain full control of their company’s printer estate through policy and user authentication, helping to get a hold on printing expenses by making it much easier to limit colour and duplex printing, for example.

The LAN Fax solution from HP and Captaris sees Captaris’ RightFax server software integrated into HP’s multi-function printers (MFPs), helping to reduce the volume of equipment an organisation needs to send and receive faxes.

Finally, the new Document Capture solution – which sees HP teaming up with Kofax - automates distribution and information exchange, addressing privacy, security and compliance regulations.

“Today’s announcement addresses the growing demand for expertise and technology to improve imaging and printing efficiency, while still enabling customers to mitigate the rise of printing costs and the risks associated with security and compliance, " said Arnold Marty, vice president and general manager for enterprise printing sales and services for HP in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

In separate printer news, Canon has announced a new range of black and white MFPs that can scan colour documents.

The iR 3225-45 series are black and white printers, but can scan in full colour. Each model is network-ready, through optional network print controllers, enabling workgroups to share a single device. The printers have wireless LAN, two USB ports and print at up to 1,200dpi.

Security is addressed through an erasable internal hard drive, PDF encryption and signature options for scanned documents so only authorised users can access the documents.

“The launch of the iR 3225-45 series is a significant move for Canon,” said Tracey Fielden, head of office marketing for Canon UK. “The new models replace the successful iR 3045/N, iR 3035/N and iR 3025/N, which earned an enviable reputation for quality, secure and cost-effective printing.”
