O2 unveils iPhone 3G PAYG details
By Maggie Holland,
Without the fanfare of the first and second gen iPhone releases, O2 has quietly announced that the pay-as-you-go (PAYG) version of the iPhone 3G will be available from 16 September.
In just a matter of weeks, an 8GB version of the device will cost you £349.99 with the bigger brother 16GB just £50 more at £399.99.
“We wanted to make it available to as many people in the market as possible and that’s why we’ve opened it up to offer it on pre-pay,” an O2 spokesperson told IT PRO.
Both the 8GB and 16GB specs will include unlimited browsing and Wi-Fi access for the first 12 months of ownership. Once the 12 month deal has expired, users can continue to enjoy the unlimited surfing package for just £10 a month, according to O2’s website.
The bonus goodies on offer to PAYG subscribers don’t end there, with free texts and minutes up for grabs too. “You'll be able to choose one of our standard Pay & Go tariffs to use with your iPhone 3G. The more you top-up each month, the more free minutes or texts you'll receive,” the site states.
The only downside of the PAYG package is the fact that users won’t be able to take advantage of visual voicemail and call merging functionality.
