HP axe falls on almost 25,000 jobs
By Maggie Holland,
HP has unveiled the finer details of plans to integrate its $13.9 billion acquisition of EDS into its business and they come at the expense of some 24,600 jobs worldwide.
The company held a meeting yesterday to announce the details, confirming mounting speculation that its headcount would be reduced over the next three years as part of the integration process.
The US will feel the blow the most, with nearly half the cull coming from HP ranks based there.
HP claims the moves will streamline costs and benefit customers. It went on to suggest that around half of the 7.5 per cent of positions being cut would be replaced in the next three years, stating that the aim was to “create a global workforce that has the right blend of services delivery capabilities to address the diversity of its markets and customers worldwide.”
The restructuring is expected to save the combined company around $1.8 billion (£1 billion).
