BlackBerry Storm heading Phone 4u’s way
By Maggie Holland,
Mobile phone retailer Phones 4u is playing down widespread reports that the BlackBerry Storm handset will arrive in its store this Friday.
Coverage surfaced earlier today suggesting that RIM's highly-anticipated touch screen handset - which features a 3.2 megapixel camera, HSDPA, GPS and a 3.25in, 480 x 360 touch sensitive display - will go on sale at the end of the week on the Vodafone network.
However, a spokeswoman for Phones 4u told IT PRO that the company could not confirm when the Storm would be available, but that an announcement would be forthcoming at the end of the week.
Users can, however, pre-order the handset online and in Phones 4u stores, adding weight to reports that a UK retail launch is close. At the time of writing, the pre-order web page stated the company aims to deliver the handset by 11 November, which is next Tuesday.
Pricing for the new handset varies depending on the contract users opt for, with some customers able to get one for free.
“Our customers tell us that they want a single phone that can also give them the most secure, reliable email and messaging experience possible combined with all the desirable smartphone features, and they want it at a price that’s affordable. The BlackBerry Storm delivers all of this and more,” said Vodafone UK’s chief executive Nick Read when the pricing was revealed last week.
