Google Voice Search for iPhone arrives

Star Trek-like interaction with your iPhone now possible as delayed app finally puts in an appearance.

By Benny Har-Even, 18 Nov 2008 at 11:29

The update to Google’s Mobile App for the iPhone that adds voice activated searching is now available on the iPhone App Store.

The update was expected to appear last Friday, after being announced earlier last week by Google, but Apple vets every application that appears on its App store and it was seemingly delayed in the queue.

The voice search function of the tool needs to be activated in the settings option and the instructions say that it only works in English and is geared towards a North American accent. IT PRO’s attempts to test the application came to naught as it crashed every time we tried to launch it, a first for an application on our test iPhone.

Google has more information and a video of people more successfully using the app on its official blog.
