    Opera 10 alpha released

Opera makes song and dance about its latest desktop browser, claiming that it is its fastest and most standards compliant yet.

By Benny Har-Even, 4 Dec 2008 at 14:54

Opera, the Norway-based internet browser specialist, has released an alpha of version 10 of its desktop browser, claiming it to be both its fastest and most standards compliant browser yet,

Opera said that the new alpha achieves a perfect 100/100 score in the Acid3 test, which provides a reference score that indicates how well a browser complies with web standards.

In our quick test of Acid3, Opera 10 alpha did indeed achieve 100/100. Firefox hit 71/100, Chrome 79/100, while the result was too garbled to read in IE7.

Opera was also proud of its new rendering engine - Opera Presto 2.2, which it says is up to 30 per cent faster than Presto 2.1.

Other new features include spell checking as you type and an auto update facility.

Opera 10 is available to download from here.
