CompuLab unveils Android-powered enterprise handset
By Benny Har-Even,
Google Android could soon be appearing on its first handset aimed specifically at the enterprise in the guise of the Exeda from Compulab.
The handset has an unusual oblong shape and comes equipped with a 3.5in 640 x 480 resolution transflective display that the company says is readable even in sunlight.
Rather than the scroll wheel of the T-Mobile G1, the unit has a capacitance-sensitive Synaptics touchpad, a little like the control system on Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X1.
The handset is Wi-Fi equipped, but interestingly actually has a 10/100 Ethernet socket as well as two USB ports.
Compulab is a Windows certified partner so it’s no surprise that in addition to Android the Exeda can run Windows 6.1. Linux is also supported and with a 520MHz Marvell CPU and 128M of RAM all of them should run well. It also has a 2-megapixel camera, GPS, a microSD card slot and Bluetooth.
The handset will be available in March with pricing to be announced then, according to Compulab.
