Networks see just 10 minutes of downtime yearly
By Abby Michaud,
Europe has fewer than 10 hours of downtime across its networks each year, a survey has found.
The report by the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) looked at the resiliency of communication networks in 17 of the 27 European states to show the measures implemented by network operators to ensure reliance of their networks.
The IDC survey asked operators about the availability and downtime experienced over the last 12 months in their core networks. Operators shared that they have avoided major outages over the last year and availability of the network was generally very high.
The executive director of ENISA, Andrea Pirotti, said: “It was reassuring to find how well both small and bigger network operators and service providers manage their network availability.”
The survey also found that operators take network resilience seriously. The top network threats were hardware, software, and location incidents.
In regards to future efforts, ENISA recommended, among other solutions, that the industry coordinate itself and join together to share information on threats, mitigation, techniques and overall management of resiliency.
