Windows 7 Beta download deadline extended again

Microsoft has cited "enthusiasm" as the reason behind the second extension to the Windows 7 Beta download deadline.

By Nicole Kobie, 26 Jan 2009 at 11:06

Microsoft has again extended the download deadline for the Windows 7 beta for another two weeks, until 10 February.

Despite claiming to have “more than enough beta testers”, Microsoft said it will continue to allow downloads of the beta past the previously set a deadline of 24 January – which was an extension from the original limit of 2.5 million users.

“The amount of feedback we have received has been amazing and continues to pour in,” Windows communications manager Brandon LeBlanc wrote in the official Windows blog, adding that the extension is happening “because enthusiasm continues to be so high for the Windows 7 Beta.”

LeBlanc wrote that users will be encouraged to get started before the final date, as downloading will be limited. While new downloads will not be available after the 10th, anyone still downloading has until 12 February to finish up, although product keys will be available indefinitely after that.

The deadlines only apply to the general public, as MSDN and TechNet subscribers have unlimited access, LeBlanc added.
