Using Windows 7 XP Mode

Downloading
XP Mode doesn’t come bundled with Windows 7 – you’ll need to download it from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx. It’s a two part download: the latest version of Microsoft’s Virtual PC, along with a copy of a Windows XP virtual machine. Make sure the machines you’re installing it on have hardware virtualisation support. The installation file for Virtual PC is small, clocking in at around 6MB. The XP Mode VM is a lot bigger, a hefty 470MB download. It needs nearly 2GB of disk space when installed, so make sure there’s plenty of space on your Windows 7 PCs, as well as enough memory.

Ubuntu with WINE
Surely WINE in Linux is more efficient at running basic Windows apps? Running an entire VM seems a little unnecessary.
