Once installed, you’ll need to start your XP virtual machine to install any security tools you want to use (the free Microsoft Security Essentials is worth considering here). Running XP Mode from the Virtual PC menu item opens it as a Windows XP desktop in its own right. If you’ve used Virtual PC in the past you’ll find this view quite familiar, and it’s where you’ll install applications as well as running Windows Update.
