    Using Windows 7 XP Mode

8. In the Windows 7 Start Menu
8 . In the Windows 7 Start Menu

You can find XP Mode applications in the Windows 7 Start Menu, just like any other Windows 7 application. In the All Programs view, navigate down to Windows Virtual PC. You’ll find an entry under here for Windows XP Mode Applications. Under this you’ll find entries for all the applications you’ve installed under XP Mode – all neatly appended with “(Windows XP Mode”). Just click the icons to launch. Applications can also be found using Windows 7’s built in search tools. If an application doesn’t appear (like IE 6), use the XP Mode desktop to move the application icon to Windows XP’s All Users start menu. You should then be able to see and use the application from the Windows 7 desktop. Not all applications can be used in XP Mode – many system level tools can only be accessed from the XP Mode desktop.

Ubuntu with WINE

Surely WINE in Linux is more efficient at running basic Windows apps? Running an entire VM seems a little unnecessary.
