Last chance for Windows 7 beta
By Nicole Kobie,
Today is the last day to start downloading the Windows 7 beta – and Microsoft isn’t planning on another extension.
According to a Microsoft, new downloads of the operating system's beta can not be started after midnight Pacific Time (8am GMT).
In a post on the official Windows blog, Windows communications manager Brandon LeBlanc said anyone who starts a download has until 9am Pacific Time (5pm GMT) on 12 February to finish it up. Product key registration will still be available after that date, however.
MSDN and TechNet subscribers will still be able to download the Windows 7 beta.
According to a Microsoft spokesperson, the beta has been downloaded 2.5 million times as of today.
The next version of Windows 7 that the world sees will be the release candidate, as Microsoft has said there will not be another beta. With a full-version rumoured to be delivered late this year or early next, some are considering skipping current OS Vista in favour of waiting for the more favourably reviewed Windows 7.
