    Twitter denies text advertising rumours

Twitter has begun using text advertising formats for its own promotions but denies any plans to include commercial advertising on the site.

Twitter has denied it will begin rolling out text advertising formats on its profile pages.

The micro blogging site has recently incorporated in-house promotions but its response to the rumours of third party advertising is clear.

Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter, told IT PRO: "We have no plans to do text advertising on Twitter.com."

"We have recently added some short, dictionary style definitions which point to Twitter related features and projects like Twitter Search and Twitter Widgets but I'm not sure how long we'll keep them."

The Japanese version of the site has always had advertising since it first launched in April 2008, but so far the original version has avoided it.

As the popularity of the site continues to grow, the need for start up cost and revenue is increasing and the adverts had been rumoured to be available to third parties by the end of the year.

Twitter recently announced that is would be launching a Twitter related job search service, pooling together 25,000 jobs mentioned on the micro blogging website.
