Microsoft updates servers with Power Pack 2

Microsoft will today release Power Pack 2, an update for its Windows Home Servers.

By Jennifer Scott, 24 Mar 2009 at 16:16

Windows Home Server Power Pack 2 will be made available as a Windows Update later today, Microsoft has announced.

The Windows Home Server team blog stated: “Power Pack 2 fixes known issues and adds new features to improve the Windows Home Server experience.”

The update will be available in the UK but other countries, such as France, Germany, Spain, China and Japan, will have to wait until the end of April.

The key features of this update are improvements to remote access, enhanced functionality for PCs running Windows Media Center (via Windows Media Center Connector) and content streaming support for Windows Media Center Extenders.

Power Pack 1 was only released 10 months ago after long delays caused by bugs in the Windows Home Servers (WHS).

The blog continued: "Users need to have Windows Home Server with Power Pack 1 already installed on their home server. Power Pack 2 will automatically install as part of Windows Update if Automatic Updates is enabled on the home server.”
