T-Mobile to extend Android use in homes?
By Nicole Kobie,
Google’s Android operating system (OS) could soon be seen on T-Mobile devices other than mobile phones like the G1, according to news reports.
The New York Times said it had seen confidential documents showing T-Mobile plans to extend its use of Google’s mobile OS onto new consumer devices, including a home phone and a table computer.
Launched last year, the T-Mobile G1 was the first mobile phone – or indeed device of any kind – to feature Android in the UK. It’s soon to be joined by the HTC Magic, with three more HTC handsets running Android expected this year. Netbooks are also tipped to start supporting Android soon.
T-Mobile told the Times it has plans for several devices that will feature Android. A spokesperson for T-Mobile in the UK refused to comment on whether such devices will be hitting these shores, and when that might happen.
