HTC profits fall 30 per cent

HTC has announced its first quarter profit figures showing a loss compared to the same period last year of 30 per cent.

By Jennifer Scott, 8 Apr 2009 at 11:08

HTC has posted a 30 per cent profit loss in its first quarter.

Net profit for the first quarter, ending 31 March, was $146.7 million (£100 million) but this was down from $210 million last year. Overall revenue for the company was down by 3.4 per cent to $954 million, over $40 million less than it had predicted.

Maggie Tseng, from HTC, said: "The reason of this 30 per cent sequentially decline is mainly because of world economic slowdown and seasonality effect."

HTC is due to launch several new models this year, such as the much anticipated HTC Magic and its announcement of a move into the non-smartphone market, so we will watch its second quarter figures with anticipation.
