Microsoft delays Stirling business security suite
By Asavin Wattanajantra,
Microsoft has delayed the release of ‘Stirling’, new products based on its Forefront security line which will include a central management system.
Although it originally slated Stirling for release in the first half of the year, Microsoft said it had to delay due to customer feedback, which asked for interoperability with third-party solutions.
Announced in 2007, Stirling was aimed at providing integration and protection that Microsoft claimed had some unique features.
One of these was what it called ‘Security Assessment Sharing’ (SAS), which “correlates security events from different Forefront products and third party solutions”.
Microsoft also said it was investing in behaviour–based tech which it called ‘Dynamic Signature Service’ to provide ‘endpoint protection for zero day attacks’.
The Stirling security suite will now be available in the fourth quarter of 2009, while the management console is expected in the first half of 2010.
It is already available as a public beta.
