HTC Touch Diamond2 review

There’s no denying that the HTC Touch Diamond was a revolution for HTC. It brought the business-based Windows Mobile phone to the masses, which meant that for many, it was no longer necessary to carry both separate business and personal device.
However, the one rather big problem with the HTC Touch Diamond was that despite HTCs Touch Flo 3D, the ‘quirky’ Windows Mobile interface was still too much in evidence, not as well hidden under a shell as it needed to be and this made it quite a task to use seamlessly.
The screen was sometimes unresponsive and you often needed to use the stylus for scrolling, emailing or texting. Even dialling was hard without one.
Thankfully though the HTC Touch Diamond2, is a device that irons out almost every single crease in the HTC Touch Diamond’s brow.
Firstly, the OS itself had been upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, with a whole new TouchFLO 3D shell hiding the aged Windows interface.
Specification improvements include a larger and higher resolution touchscreen, external microSD card slot (to replace the 4GB internal memory) and faster processor with 288MB RAM compared to the original Diamond’s 192MB. The 5-megapixel camera on the most recent incarnation is a vast improvement on the Diamond’s, while the addition of HSUPA means files can, network permitting, be uploaded at speeds of up to 2Mbps.
The screen is ten times as responsive, almost matching the iPhone for usability. Before, it was a struggle to sweep your finger across the screen to move onto the next menu or next option. Even when using the stylus, it was nigh on impossible to scroll down a list using the scroll bar. Although there are some issues with oversensitivity (selecting an option by accident for one), it’s a vast improvement over previous touchscreen HTC devices.
In use, you never have to revert to using the Start menu because everything you need is in the main HTC menu, including a list of applications and settings options.
The homescreen of the HTC Touch Diamond2 is a simple affair; and there’s a large clock in the centre of the screen and below that, your call history and calendar events are displayed. Along the bottom of the screen, there is a horizontal set of customisable icons that launch various applications including your email inbox, web browser and stock prices.
There’s no shortage of handy web-based widgets to make your life easier. These include stocks prices and weather that can be instantly updated, ensuring the correct information gets to you with as few clicks as possible.

Touch HD
Nice review, but you missed the fact that the interface, improved screen and Win 6.1 are present on the Touch HD which has been out since Christmas. HTC have basically brought the Diamond up to the spec of the HD.

Warrany watch out
The reset button is under the back cover. Right next to this is a recessed casing screw with an anti-tamper 'void' sticker. It is very easy to stick the stylus into the screw instead of the button by mistake. I found out the very expensive consequence (£70) when the touch screen developed a fault after only a few weeks. I then spend many more weeks arguing with Handtec and HTC to no avail - I had to pay up. HTC even emailed a photo of the damaged 'void' sticker which had pretty clearly never had a screwdriver in it. There is very little clearance inside the casing to put tape over the screw hole and if you block the hole with something you would again risk damaging the sticker in some way. All this would be avoided if the 'void' sticker were simply put on a different screw. If I were cynical I might think this was deliberate to avoid paying out for warranty claims!

Avoid HTC MOBILES
AVOID HTC MOBILES!!!!
The worst customer service, the worst mobiles! burn pixels on new mobiles from the first day I opened the box, big delays in everything you want to do with the mobile, after 3 months the mobile stuck and it couldn't get the signal from my provider no one could call me and I couldn't call at the end after 8 months the whole screen stuck and I couldn't even see my calls and contacts or send a message! The service in Greece is not take over the responsibility the only thing they are doing is to fix the damage and send me back the same mobile after 2 times service, 1 hard reset and 2 soft resets! No one from the company could help me to solve the problem! I lost all my contacts and emails 3 times! I charge my account several times for hours trying to speak with their service and no one was able to help!!!! The only the can do again is to fix the damage and send me back the same device after 3 huge problems I faced with it in less than a year!
It is like I put 460 euros in the garbage!!! Do not hesitate to contact me for any further info! PLEASE DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!
My mobile was the HTC DIAMOND 2.
