Cisco aims for cloud with next-generation IP networks

Cisco is looking for companies to use next generation IP networks for cloud services.

By Asavin Wattanajantra, 13 May 2009 at 16:55

Cisco has made a move to allow businesses to take advantage of next-generation IP networks to provide video and data services from the data centre.

The company revealed ‘Unified Service Delivery’, which it also claimed will build a foundation for cloud-based services, transforming the delivery of applications to any place or device.

Cisco said that businesses taking advantage of the new solution will be able to combine Cisco’s data centre portfolio and its recently released 'Unified Computing' architecture.

At the heart of the service delivery is Cisco’s Unified Computing System and its Cisco Nexus Switch, with its new data centre optimised router – the new Cisco CRS-1 Carrier Routing System.

Consumers and businesses are demanding new services and more from their networks, Cisco claimed, citing a 46 per cent annual growth rate in global internet traffic.

Cisco has widened its reach in recent times, making big moves into servers and security.

The Pathway to CLoud Services

Thank you for sharing this insight. FYI, Cisco's Simon Aspinall started a series of thought-provoking commentaries on the emerging cloud services opportunity for service providers http://bit.ly/3JWMX
