London Eye ‘future proofed’ for £12.5 million
By Asavin Wattanajantra,
The London Eye will benefit from a £12.5 million investment boost to keep it ‘future proofed’ for the next 15 to 20 years.
Each London Eye capsule will benefit from an updated heating and ventilation system that is much more environmentally friendly than the current tech in use.
However, one capsule will be fitted with advanced technology, which all the other capsules will support in the future.
This includes four ceiling mounted screens, enhanced multimedia, in addition to Wi-Fi capabilities allowing the capsule to provide music and on-screen visuals to the attraction's visitors.
Each of the 32 capsules will be removed and upgraded one at a time so as not to interrupt normal operations. The plan is to complete the overhaul in time for the London Olympics in 2012.
“This will ensure the London Eye operates at maximum efficiency and is cutting down its carbon footprint well into the future,” said David Sharpe, a director at Merlin Entertainments Group, which owns the London Eye.
