Cisco’s Chambers not leaving ‘any time soon’
By Asavin Wattanajantra,
The chief executive of Cisco John Chambers has vowed to stay in the role for at least another three to five years.
So claims a report by Reuters, which suggests that this would reassure investors concerned that the global economic downturn and recent financial results showing a 20 per cent fall would result in a change in leadership.
It also claimed that the question of who would replace Chambers was sensitive to Cisco, as there was no consensus about a suitable person to replace him.
Chambers helped grow the company from $70 million when he joined in January 1991, to $1.2 billion when he took the role of chief executive, to the current $36 billion company it is now.
Chambers was also said to have confirmed Cisco would keep expanding from network equipment to newer business areas using video technology and web collaboration, despite the economic climate.
Cisco had not responded to IT PRO's request for comment at the time of publication.
