Microsoft has released the latest major service update for Vista, its most recent operating system.

The update also covers Windows Server 2008, and fixes all the bugs that have been patched since service pack one (SP1) was offered up last year, in addition to tweaks to compatibility for new hardware.

Indeed, Windows communications manager Brandon LeBlanc admitted little is new. “While most updates contained in SP2 are available as individual downloads, the roll-up convenience of SP2 is a major benefit for administrators,” he wrote in the official Windows blog.

The update can be downloaded immediately from Microsoft, while more patient Vista users can simply leave their automatic update system flipped on to receive SP2 sometime in the next few months, starting in June.
