Motorola technology will be helping Virgin Media roll out its high speed broadband.

A statement from Motorola said Virgin has chosen its BSR 64000 Integrated-CMTS solution, which uses DOCSIS 3.0 to increase internet speed.

It also said that by using its solution it will “increase bandwidth, enhance security, and evolve triple play voice and ultra-broadband data and video services.”

Joe Cozzolino, senior vice president for Motorola Home & Networks Mobility in Europe, said: “We are delighted to be selected by Virgin Media as it rolls out DOCSIS 3.0 based services, and we look forward to working closely as we head towards the reality of the 200Mb home.”

Virgin Media’s chief executive claimed in March that they had the capability for such high speeds but a spokesperson for the company quickly quashed the idea saying there was “no market for it at present.”

However, Virgin Media announced earlier this month that is was piloting 200MB broadband in Kent in competition with BT’s plans to roll out a fast speed connection.

Virgin Media had not returned our request for comment at the time of publication.
