Acer netbooks

Hot off yesterday’s announcement that it would launch netbooks based on the Android operating system this year, Acer has already confirmed the first fruits of that partnership in the guise of a new and updated Aspire One.

Acer made the announcement at the Computex trade show in Taiwan, where Jim Wong, president of IT operations said: “The Android operating system offers incredibly fast wireless connection to the internet; for this reason, Acer has decided to develop Android netbooks for added convenience to our customers.”

The implication here is that Acer feels that Android is very suited to the core task of getting users quickly up and running on the internet.

Acer confirmed in a statement that Android would be available on most of its upcoming netbooks in addition to the conventional Microsoft option.

Acer said that the first Aspire One netbook with Android would be available in third quarter this year.

Yesterday, the company also said that it would be releasing smartphones based on Android. Up to now its range has been based on Windows Mobile.
