Nearly 100,000 websites crashed by hackers

A UK ISP has been attacked by hackers, leaving 100,000 websites down and a lot of data hanging in the balance.

Nearly 100,000 websites have been shut down after hackers attacked a UK based internet service provider (ISP).

The hackers got into Vaserv through a zero-day vulnerability in its virtualisation application, the widely used HyperVM, created by LXLabs.

Reports across the web have stated the attack happened on Sunday night and according to Vaserv’s website, it is still working to fix the problems.

It lists over 20 FSCK servers that have “total data loss” and said it will “be inspecting them further later on.” It also said that “some of the nodes have been restored while others are being checked and once done full list will be issued.”

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack as of yet. Anybody concerned about their information should visit the Vaserv website for regular updates.

IT PRO contacted Vaserv for comment but it had not responded to our request at the time of publication.
