Week in Numbers: Record patches
By Nicole Kobie,
This week has seen storage software sales fall, record security patches, TfL do something right, and a massive hacking attack - oh, and something called an iPhone 3G S.
5.2 – the percentage decline in storage software sales, according to IDC. It’s the first drop in the sector in five years.
31 – the record number of patches Microsoft released this week, alongside Adobe’s first ever quarterly update, which addressed 13 flaws. The releases should keep IT admins busy for a while…
41 – the per cent by which Transport for London has managed to cut its supplier costs, after bringing much of its IT back in-house. All good news, but after this week’s strike, we’re still feeling a little bitter here in London.
£275 – the top price of the Apple iPhone 3G S, the latest gadget to be released to the adoration of fanboys and girls around the globe. O2 won’t be letting die-hards out of current contracts though, so upgrade immediately could get pricey.
100,000 – the number of websites taken down after a hacking attack hit ISP Vaserv. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
