Sales of Geek Atlas will help Bletchley Park’s plight
By Maggie Holland,
Bletchley Park could receive another welcome funding boost, thanks to the publishers of a new ‘Geek Atlas’ who have generously agreed to donate 50 pence out of every sale to the cause.
The money generated by O’Reilly Media, the company behind ‘The Geek Atlas: 128 Places Where Science & Technology Come Alive’ will serve as a valuable income drip feed to the home of monumental computing efforts during WWII.
Despite the great technological breakthroughs achieved at Bletchley Park, in recent years the once glorious site has fallen from grace, plagued by a lack of investment.
A campaign to raise money was launched and the cause continues to attract the interest, and support, of more people, with this publisher being the latest to lend a helping hand.
Bletchley Park is featured in the new publication in celebration of its work to break the Enigma code during the war.
John Graham-Cumming, the author of the book, said in a statement: "Unfortunately, finding great scientific places to visit isn't as easy as finding homes of long-dead poets, painters, or writers."
"This is a pity, because if there's one thing that makes science stand apart, it's the willingness of scientists to freely share what they do."
