Dell launches new virtualisation products and services
By Jennifer Scott,
Dell has launched a new portfolio of virtualisation products and services.
The line up includes data centre services, new servers and new storage arrays aiming to simplify the implementation of virtualisation and assisting with high performance computing (HPC).
Brad Anderson, senior vice president for Dell's enterprise product group, said: “Large enterprises, small-to-medium sized business and public-sector organisations face common IT obstacles that impede their ability to efficiently assess, deploy and manage technology. From virtualisation to high performance computing clusters, customers are seeking standards-based technologies that improve efficiency while reducing costs.”
Dell is launching a new version of the PowerEdge server, the R410, featuring Intel’s Xeon 5500. It claims to improve HPC performance by 80 per cent compared with the previous generation of servers. The rack server also features a pre-loaded Dell Management Console (DMC) and Dell Lifecycle Controller as well as an LCD screen providing aisle-level access for diagnostics.
Dell is also launching a new EqualLogic PS4000 storage array and PowerVault NX3000 network attached storage (NAS) device. These are designed to help SMBs move to virtualisation and include snapshot and auto-replication back-up.
Both the PowerEdge R410 server and EqualLogic PS 4000 are available now starting at $999 and $10,000 respectively.
