Cable & Wireless rolls out next gen networks
By Richard Goodwin,
Cable & Wireless (C&W) has begun its massive next-generation infrastructure upgrade that will span 21 locations in Ireland and Europe, bringing benefits for businesses with interests over seas.
Cable & Wireless’s Multi-Service Platform (MSP) - which is already available in the UK - consolidates networks, bringing improved high definition video conferencing, application management solutions, and advanced ethernet services.
According to David Molony, an analyst at Ovum: “The extension of the MSP to Europe will enable it to provide greater support to its international customers through a range of innovative next-generation services.”
He added: “This announcement sees the company take a significant step forward in its global connectivity strategy."
By extending the MSP to Ireland and Continental Europe, businesses will be better connected to additional Asia-Pacific and American networks, providing improved global reach and increased business opportunities.
Additionally, new users will be able to access C&W’s virtual private network, IPVPN QoS.
The next generation MSP will grant improved business communication tools to businesses, such as high definition video conferencing capabilities, IP telephony, application performance management solutions, IP CCTV, and digital signage, the firm claimed.
"The rollout of the MSP across Ireland and Continental Europe will see another piece of our global IP network fall into place,” said Nick Lambert, managing director of global markets at Cable & Wireless Worldwide.
He added: “Our large multinational and Carrier customers need the very best telecommunication solutions across all their locations and this is exactly what we will provide them.”
Once the upgrade is completed in late September 2009, businesses in both Europe and Ireland will be able to join C&W’s growing global network of business users.
“Today's announcement is a significant milestone in the journey towards the completion of a truly global next-generation network that will benefit all of our customers with an international footprint," said Lambert.
“MSP enables lower cost, higher speed, application aware connectivity within our European base and to our Global network in more than 150 countries including Asia Pacific, India, Middle East & Africa and USA,” said Noreen O'Hare, director of Europe at Cable & Wireless Worldwide.
