Seagate says SSD products are on their way
By Jennifer Scott,
Seagate will produce solid state drive (SSD) products, according to an executive from the company.
In a briefing today, Jon Van Bronkhurst, executive director of product marketing for Seagate, said: “We will have SSD based enterprise products in the future.” He refused to confirm details of the products or release dates.
SSD is becoming more prominent in the storage and server industry with EMC’s Joe Tucci saying last month that it will “dominate for the foreseeable future” and a number of companies releasing their own SSD products such as Fusion IO and Sandforce.
Seagate also launched new consumer and business products for storage and back up.
The Replica is a consumer plug and play back up device enabling people lacking in-depth tech knowledge to take better care of their data. It can be used for a single PC or multiple devices within the home environment. Replica runs on Windows machines with a 2.5inch drive and comes in either 250GB or 500GB.
The Black Armour NAS 440/420 is a storage server designed for SMBs with 50 or less employees. The hot-swapple four drive system comes in either 2, 4, 6 or 8TB and features four USB ports, user configurable RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and JBOD, an LCD screen and event email notification.
More models will be added to the Black Armour range including a 4TB storage server, a workstation external drive and a portable drive, but these will not hit the UK until the autumn.
