O2 confirms it will sell Palm Pre by end of year
By Nicole Kobie,
O2 has finally confirmed it has won exclusivity of the Palm Pre, promising it will arrive in the UK in time for Christmas.
The well-reviewed Palm Pre has caused a stir as a potential iPhone killer, with O2 long-rumoured to win the exclusive rights to sell it in the UK. O2 also has the Apple iPhone contract.
On its website, O2 said: "We’re really pleased to announce that the Pre, Palm’s latest smartphone that’s causing a big stir in the US, is heading exclusively to O2 in the UK later on this year!"
"The Pre is launching in Spain, the UK, Ireland and Germany exclusively on Telefónica networks (like O2) and will be here in time to sit under Christmas trees all over the land," the O2 statement said.
Telefonica's chief executive Matthew Key said in a statement: "We are fast becoming the home of the smartphone with the addition of the hotly-anticipated Palm Pre to our already extensive portfolio."
"Our customers will be the first outside of North America to experience one of the most successful mobile devices of the year," he noted.
Pricing of the phone has not yet been announced.
