Work begins on 'Fibrezone' network for Sheffield

Sheffield is to become a “Fibrezone” as H20 Networks begin building a fibre broadband network in the Yorkshire city.

The company, part of the i3 Group, will build on existing fibre optics put in place two years ago to allow businesses and homes in the 15km area to access super-fast broadband speeds of up to 100Mbps.

In addition, it will use ready made ducts such as waste water networks to help avoid expensive road digs and traffic trouble for locals.

Roy Shelton, commercial director at H2O Networks, has further plans for the future.

He said in a statement: “This Fibrezone sees us extending our fibre footprint in Sheffield, providing low cost unlimited bandwidth, allowing homes and businesses throughout the city to connect.”

“Our success in Sheffield has proven there is a huge demand for Fibrezone and will therefore drive our planned rollout of a further 10 over the next 12 months.”

i3 Group’s subsidiary Fibrecity Holdings also confirmed plans to connect over one million homes across the UK in the next ten years.

Work on the Sheffield Fibrezone is due to be completed in September this year.
