Logicalis has won a £5.5 million deal with Leicestershire County Council to provide voice and data management services.

The deal, which includes providing WAN, LAN and VoIP services to over 6,000 users across 300 sites, shows the global solutions provider continuing on its campaign to increase efficiency in Local Councils.

Andy Roberts, head of ICT at Leicestershire County Council, said: “In working closely with Logicalis we have put in place the foundations for the long-term evolution of our ICT strategy, and to help us achieve central government targets for greater efficiency.”

“These savings are integral to the Council meeting its efficiency targets, however, we will redirect a proportion of these funds into new services and applications that will further streamline existing processes or improve customer services.”

Logicalis held a debate at the House of Commons last month asking central government to provide local government with a £1 billion fund, allowing services to be consolidated for a greener, more efficient ICT model.

Tom Kelly, managing director of Logicalis UK, said: “Increasingly, the public sector is turning to managed services to deliver financial and resource predictability for their core ICT services, enabling internal staff to focus on delivering strategic improvements desired by local citizens.”

“Managed services also offer tremendous potential for innovation, and it’s important that this is exploited and promoted in the public sector.”
