Business customers to get Windows 7 early
By Jennifer Scott,
Businesses are set to get Windows 7 ahead of the rest of customers - and cheaper, too.
Microsoft has said Volume Licence customers will be able to get Windows 7 from 1 September, eight weeks before it goes on general release.
It has also been confirmed that volume customers will receive a discount.
The announcement was made by Bill Veghte, senior vice president of Windows Business, at Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference in New Orleans yesterday.
During his keynote speech, Veghte said: “The other thing that you've shared with me is you've said, gosh, there is a big opportunity, there's a big opportunity in volume licensing, we want to know when it's available, and we'd sure like you to be more aggressive on the economic side.”
“I'm pleased to announce that 1 September the Windows 7 volume licensing will be available, and I'm pleased to announce here today that we will do a limited time promotion on Windows 7 for volume licensing, depending on the volume, and geography, of between 15 and 35 per cent discount for your customers.”
A post on the Windows blog also confirmed that MSDN and Technet subscribers will get the OS before its official release date on the 22 October, a few weeks after it is released to manufacturers.
You can pre-order Windows 7 in the UK from tomorrow.
