Revenue losses

Sun Microsystems has predicted a revenue loss of 30 per cent yesterday when it reported preliminary results for its fourth quarter of fiscal year 2009.

The dramatic fall in revenue was announced two days before Sun’s stakeholders vote on Oracle’s $7.4 billion acquisition bid made back in April this year. It is likely to be the company’s last results call before the takeover.

Figures released by Sun have shown revenue of $2.58 to $2.68 billion in its last quarter compared to $3.78 billion the year before. Wall Street had predicted revenues of $3.1 billion, according to the Financial Times.

A statement released by Sun said the official results would be posted with its annual report “due no later than 31 August 2009” but it did not make any further comment.
