Texas SSD storage to be sold in UK
By Jennifer Scott,
Texas Memory Systems will sell its solid state disk (SSD) products in the UK for the first time through Shoden Data Systems Europe.
Shoden Data Systems has been working with Texas Memory Systems in South Africa, selling the enterprise level storage systems, but they are now making the move into the UK market where Shoden’s European arm is based.
Woody Hutsell, president of Texas Memory Systems, said: “The decline in price coupled with unmatched performance had led to a dramatic increase in the demand for solid state storage products worldwide and we are now relying on the Shoden Data Systems Europe team to help us grow our European market share further.”
Many high profile companies have been moving to SSD, with EMC claiming it will change the face of the industry and Seagate promising it will release SSD products in the near future.
However, a report from iSuppli this month raised concerns that the increase in price that NAND flash has seen will lead to the same price hike for SSD, damaging the selling point Hutsell has claimed.
Both companies are positive about the move, however. John Taffinder, chief executive of Shoden Data Systems Europe, said: “We look forward to replicating the success of our South African parent company.”
