Layoff notice

Reports have been circling the internet that Cisco has laid off hundred of employees across two countries.

On Friday the Wall Street Journal reported the networking giant laid off 600 to 700 people from its headquarters based in San Jose, California. It also said the firm had cut further jobs in US branches although the total number was unclear.

Today, more reports have emerged that 60 people have been let go at one of Cisco’s development centres based in Israel.

During its second quarter financial briefing in February, chief executive John Chambers estimated that between 1,500 and 2,000 employees would be out of a job in what he called “realigning and restructuring resources as a part of our normal business process” but he didn’t state where.

IT PRO contacted Cisco who confirmed any job cuts would be part of Chambers’ earlier announcement. However, the spokepserson, "could neither confirm nor deny the numbers as released by the Wall Street Journal."
