Kingston unveils 256GB flash drive

Kingston has launched a 256GB USB flash drive with the price reflecting its capacity.

Kingston Technology has launched the world’s first 256GB USB flash drive.

The huge capacity USB stick, called the DataTraveler 300, can carry the equivalent of 51,000 images or 54 DVDs with the option of password protecting the data.

Kirsty Miller, product marketing manager of Kingston's consumer arm, said in a statement: “The DataTraveler 300 will enable users to carry huge volumes of data with them everywhere they go – up to 365 CDs for example. That’s one album for every day of the year, and it demonstrates how far flash technology has developed.”

Kingston suggests that it is ideal for netbook users to increase their capacity but at a suggested retail price of £565.67 excluding VAT you could easily buy a few spare netbooks to carry around. The cap-less 70mm design, however, is much easier to slide in your pocket.

The device is built to order and can be bought through resellers with a five year warranty.
