Samsung to extend mobile app store across Europe
By Maggie Holland,
Samsung plans to move its app store out of beta and into other European countries.
News of the plans to “launch and expand an official Application Store in Europe during 3Q of this year” came as the company launched an application site for sellers.
Available from today, the new Seller Site will let developers track how their applications are doing – from certification to sales records, revenue and end user popularity.
“We launched a Samsung Application Store beta service in January in the UK and have been collaborating with developers and content providers through Samsung Mobile Innovator, a developer programme for Symbian, Windows Mobile, and Java from October, 2008,” said Samsung’s content service centre vice president Kanghyun Kwon, in a statement.
“With the launch of Samsung’s Application Seller Site, we can complete the total eco-system for better, easier, and more exciting mobile experiences ranging from compelling mobile phones to content and applications. We are aiming to achieve a win-win business model for end-users, mobile operators, and industry influencers, such as developers and content providers.”
Samsung is not alone in trying to capitalise on users’ growing hunger for innovation mobile applications.
Apple, at present, appears to have the market cornered with its App Store, but the Android Market is fast gaining traction and together, with newer entrants like LG and Samsung, competition is certainly hotting up.
