    T-Mobile’s parent more stable financially

Things are looking up for Deutsche Telekom as it reports its half-year results.

Results charts

Things are looking up for T-Mobile after its parent company Deutsche Telekom reported healthy results this week.

Net revenue for the second quarter was €16.2 billion, more than €9 billion of which came from success outside its home country Germany.

Net revenue for the half year to 30 June was reported as more than €32 billion, an increase of 6.8 per cent compared

While a net profit increase to €0.5 billion for the quarter might not seem like a mammoth achievement for a big communications company, it’s actually an increase of nearly a third (32.3 per cent) and outshines Deutsche Telekom’s first quarter financials.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) were also up – by 8.4 per cent to €5.3 billion, although free cash flow sunk by 28.5 per cent compared to the second quarter of 2008.

Both mobile and DSL line subscribers were up to 149.8 million and 17.2 million respectively.

“We took resolute action at the right time in a difficult environment,” said Deutsche Telekom’s chairman of the board of management René Obermann, in a statement.

“The figures for the second quarter make us confident for the full year.”

Earlier this week, it emerged that T-Mobile is offering some of its customers the iPhone in a move that bypasses O2’s UK exclusivity deal with Apple.
